AYRSHIRE PLANNER HOPING TO HELP SCOTS SWEEP TO VICTORY

Euan Lawrence, Partner with architects and town planning consultants Lawrence McPherson Associates, is part of a 22-strong Scots contingent on a 24-day Canadian tour which started off in Montreal.

The Ayr resident, who is a former Scottish swimming internationalist, is competing in 17 curling matches in a bid to help the Scots team snatch the Bob Mackintosh Quaich back from the host nation's grasp.

Euan, who has been curling for 10 years and plays two or three times a week during the winter months, said: "It would be great if we won the Quaich but the trip is really much more about forging international friendships through Rotary and meeting lots of new people from different walks of life.

"During my time there I am staying with ten different hosts including a pharmacist, a software entrepreneur, a dentist and even a judge in Ontario. The Canadians are very hospitable and we are being given red carpet treatment all the way."

Other highlights of this year's trip include a private visit to the Canadian Parliament in Ottawa, a visit to the Niagara Falls and a number of banquets and receptions.

Euan has represented Scotland at curling for Rotary, and played host to members of the incoming Canadian team, on three previous occasions.

Euan founded Lawrence McPherson Associates along with Stuart McPherson in 1994 and the Practice has grown significantly in recent years with an existing staff of 25 people. The Practice is the biggest architectural and town planning Practice in Ayrshire and also has an office in Musselburgh located in a historic former mill building at Eskmills.

The company was recently selected for a framework agreement with NHS Ayrshire & Arran, which could see the company working on several multi-million pound building projects a year.
